The Vancouver Voodoo are barely hanging in there in the Orr Conference, currently sitting in the eighth and final playoff spot. And although one might expect fans of the team to be used to mediocrity at this point, it still doesn't make it easier to see the club continuously barely sneak into the playoffs.
"We know we need to take that next step" said GM McEwan when asked to comment. "We have some solid youth that makes us excited about the future, as well as a good core for the present. I believe we're a key depth player or two away from making some noise."
Hot on their heels is the Edmonton Freeze, who have seven wins in their last ten games and now sit just one point behind Vancouver.
All-star defenseman Andrei Markov continues to be stellar on the blueline, while goaltender Cam Ward has been slow to reach the level the club obviously thinks he can. And will franchise centre Olli Jokinen be re-signed to a long-term contract?
There are many questions that Voodoo fans want answers. But none more than that age-old question they've been asking for almost ten years: When will the Vancouver Voodoo take the next step into the league's elite?
