Brief Overview:
Few fans would disagree that the Chiefs have not have the most successful first seven seasons in the NHA. Only once has the team had a record over .500, and only three times has the team squeaked into the playoffs. With the retirement of former captain and team leading scorer Adam Oates in 2004, Columbus was left without a true star player.
Things have looked up recently for the franchise, however, starting with the offensive emergence of Jonathan Cheechoo who scored a club-record 47 goals in 2005-06. The Chiefs also made it to the Orr division finals in 2006, losing out to the eventual Cup winners the Victoria Vengeance (now Las Vegas Knights).
In April of 2007 Dan Hooper was named as the Chiefs' new General Manager, making Columbus fans hopeful that the team can turn the corner with a few key moves, and be a playoff contender for good. No doubt, Mr. Hooper will have his work cut out for him in the coming years.
