Brief Overview:
The San Jose Sting Rays, who were originally known as the San Jose Snipers in 1998, have had mixed success over the years.
In 2001-02, the club enjoyed a breakout 101-point season with 46 wins, only to be knocked out by the Victoria Vengeance in round 1 of the playoffs. The Sting Rays have a very good winning percentage in their regular season history, but have failed to make it past the second round in the post-season thus far.
GM Curtis Prue, who took over the team in early 2007, is taking steps towards putting the team over the edge. On April 1, 2007, he acquired top defenseman Nicklas Lidstrom from the Dallas Storm. Lidstrom joins long-time Sting Ray Scott Niedermayer to form the best 1-2 punch on the blueline in the entire league. Captain Mike Modano, the teams' all-time leader in most all scoring categories, continues to bring the offense.
No doubt the Sting Rays are a club to keep an eye on in 2007 and beyond.
